Nicole Malliotakis is the daughter of immigrants, her father from Greece and her mother a Cuban exile of the Castro dictatorship. Prior to her election to Congress, Nicole served in the New York State Assembly for five terms. In 2017, Nicole became a household name when she challenged Mayor Bill de Blasio for his job running the city of New York. During the race, Nicole fiercely criticized de Blasio’s handling of taxes, spending, crime, and embrace of sanctuary city status. In the State Assembly, Nicole led the opposition to corrupt former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and his criminal conduct. She brought more transparency to state government processes, was recognized as a leader in the Hurricane Sandy recovery effort, and made a name for herself as one of the Hispanic Coalition of New York’s “40 Under 40 Latino Rising Stars.”
